Anticipatory Symptom Management Plan
Children with complex medical care often have multiple symptoms that are managed with multiple medications and integrative therapies. While many days may be “stable” it is helpful to have a plan for when an exacerbation occurs. This is particularly important when planning to travel with the child or at times when it may be challenging to reach clinicians or obtain medications, such as over a long holiday weekend. Having a plan that addresses symptoms and how to assess and treat them will allow the family, and especially unfamiliar clinicians, to deliver timely care to the child.
