Understanding Interventions

Over the course of your child’s illness journey, you will be faced with decisions about a range of medical interventions designed to diagnose and/or manage your child’s medical conditions. These may include options about surgeries, treatments and therapies, and how your child is cared for.

All good decision-making is a process. The medical team, and your palliative care team, will engage you in an ongoing conversation over time. And sometimes you will have to make relatively quick decisions. The more information you are able to gather, the more likely you are to feel comfortable with the choices you make. The perspectives of providers and other families who have considered these interventions can also be a tremendous help in seeing what resonates with you as the best way to move forward for your child and family. The goal is to minimize your stress and any fear of regret.
