A mother shares her reaction to the word “trach” and what she imagined as she considered it for her daughter. “To a medical person, they see these things all the time and it’s not a big deal, but to a parent, when it’s first happening, it’s devastating. I didn’t know anything about any of these things and now it’s happening to my little girl and I’m the one who has to learn everything and make the best decisions.”
