Guidelines for Courageous Parents Network Blog Contributors
Thank you for your interest in contributing to the CPN blog. Your voice helps us build a community of parents supporting other parents. Original pieces written specifically for CPN are among our most-read content. We aim to publish fresh, relevant posts each week and welcome diverse perspectives. There are no strict deadlines (unless noted), and we’re happy to support you as you shape your story.
Before You Write
- Know the audience: Parents of children with serious illness and the professionals who care for them.
- Focus your message: Strong posts center on a specific challenge, insight, emotional strategy, clinical theme, or shift in perspective—not a full chronological retelling.
- Be personal: Readers want to learn from your experience.
- Mind the tone: Honest and direct is great—avoid preachy language or overt anger. If strong language feels necessary, please use symbols.
- Be respectful: Constructive feedback about medical providers is welcome; keep frustrations measured.
- Include palliative care: If relevant, share its impact in your experience.
- Length: 500–1,500 words.
- Add resources: Include links to any research or organizations you reference.
- Share photos: One or two images help tell your story.
CPN reserves final editorial review. We may tighten or copy-edit your piece but will never change its meaning, and you will approve the final version before publication.
Once your final blog is approved, we’ll schedule a publication date. Your post may be published within days of submission or scheduled to align with a special theme or event; either way, we’ll let you know in advance so you can share it with friends and family by email or on social media. Your blog will remain on our website as an ongoing resource and can be searched by title.
